I must say I associate this error with a corrupted installation of IBM SPSS Statistics. Most often when I have seen this error, it has been after the user tries to update an existing installation using the "Check for Updates" menu item in IBM SPSS Statistics Subscription, or by simply installing a new version over the top of an old version. Now... you should be able to do either of those things successfully, and most of the time for most users it works just fine. But sometimes, for some users...
In this case I would recommend a fresh install of the latest product:
Download Fresh Media
While there: Click on your Tile for IBM SPSS Statistics Subscription. Use the Manage button and Manage Devices menu. Deactivate any devices you see referenced there. Next go to the Download menu and download the latest install media for you operating system.
On macOS
Use this
technote to reset your system in preparation for a new install.
On Windows
Uninstall the current version Use the standard uninstall - On Win11, for example:
Use the blue Windows window pane icon to get to Settings. Choose Apps -> Installed Apps -> and IBM SPSS Statistics, then Uninstall.
Delete the installation folder (e,g, 'C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS Statistics')
Delete your user preferences under your user profile -- In the File Explorer search for '%APPDATA%\IBM\SPSS Statistics' and delete it.
Access the Windows Registry with 'regedit.exe' - Delete your user preferences by deleting the 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\com\ibm\/S/P/S/S\/Statistics' registry keys.
Be sure to right-click on the installer executable and 'Run as Administrator'
Launch and Login to IBM SPSS Statistics Subscription as you normally would using your IBMid.

I have a few questions
- When you say you downloaded the SPSS Statistics demo version, do you mean you have downloaded the Trial?
- Do you have other instances of IBM SPSS Statistics installed? It might be better to completely uninstall these first. Then try to install the Trial.
- You indicate you have updated Java. IBM SPSS Statistics ships with its own version of Java, installed to the IBM SPSS Statistics install path. It should be paying no attention at all to any other Java you may have installed for yourself. Do you mean you installed IBM SPSS Statistics and then manually replaced the Java it installed for itself?
