a. By virtue of purchasing an IBM Server, you are authorized to download and install the Systems Director Server or Agent code on that server. You get zero support, but it runs.
b. The Active Energy Manager plug-in can be installed on the Systems Director Server and will immediately start monitoring Energy utilization on the appropriate servers. Management functions (i.e. power saving, power capping) require a purchased, licensed copy.
c. If the servers in question are running AIX Enterprise Edition, this includes said license key.
d. Energy utilization can be exported from Systems Director via the command-line or via the REST APIs.

What are you looking to do with this data if I may ask? Are you using it for another program? Or just curiosity?

I do not want to use Systems Director .. have you ever used it? It's so clunky, and large, and a pain to actually use. I don't like it.

My goal is to be able to grab the information without Systems Director or relying on any software.

I know there isn't a magic command to do it, and I'll probably have to grab it out using C, but I'm fine with that :). Kind of like the way nmon grabs performance statistics, I want to grab energy statistics.

I talked to HMC support. They said for my frame type there is no way to grab the power consumption information from the HMC.

Looks like I'll be diving into some code maybe to do it.
If SYSTEMS DIRECTOR can do it, I should be able to do it.
