  • 1.  Email delivery in Cognos

    Hi,

Could anybody let me know the rules related to delivery of email in Cognos?.

We have Active Directory as the third party authentication provider in our Cognos Environment.
I have the following questions on who can receive a email delivery in Cognos.

    1. Can any user in the AD namespace receive emails if they are added as recipients in Schedules (Is access to Cognos mandatory to receive emails from Cognos?).
    2. Can emails be sent from schedules to external recipients? i.e., those who are not members of the AD namespace?
    3. Does a user have to be a member of a Cognos group (Cognos namespace) in order to receive emails from shedules?

    4. Are there settings in Cognos that can be used to control who can receive emails?

I have checked the information of capabilities related to Email & Email delivery option and that did not help answer the above questions.
Please provide information/answers to the above questions, as I am trying to resolve a specific issue in the clients Cognos environment.

    Regards,

    Hi all,

I guess that is too many questions.
To be more specific, in our Cognos environment, only users who are in Cognos groups are getting delivery of emails and the delivery is failing when users who are not members of Cognos groups in the Cognos namespace are included as email recipients in schedules. Is this a new restriction in Cognos Analytics 11.1??. If so, is there a workaround so that emails can be sent to employees of the company who are not members of Cognos groups?

We are using 11.1.7 version and our security set up involves use of Cognos groups in the Cognos namespace.
Would like to add that earlier we were able to send emails via schedules to non members of cognos groups.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

    Regards

    Hi Mack,

Are you using Cognos Analytics on premise or Cognos Analytics on Cloud? Do you try to send emails to an external domain?

In Manage / Configuration / System / Security, there is a parameter called "Allow list email domains".
Use this parameter to set an allowlist of email domains. When the parameter is set, emails can be sent only to the specified email domains. The value is a comma-separated list of domains, for example: ibm.com, domain.com, mail.com. If no value is specified, any email domain can be sent a message.

There is another parameter you might check too:
    Control Browsing of External Namespaces
    and
How to restrict users when selecting email recipients

There are also a few new capabilities available listed in here:
    Email capability

Note: for your next thread, you should use the topic group called "Cognos Analytics with Watson" instead of this one.

    Best regards,

    Hi Patrick,

Actually the issue was not clear and there was no problem with email delivery to the users whether or not they were members of Cognos groups.
    Thank you.

    Mack
