  • 1.  Edit Service Client sporadically does not check in changed documents

We have the problem at a customer that documents edited via the Edit Service Client are not always checked in correctly after saving and closing.
In the Content Navigator, the document is still displayed as checked out. In the version history, the last edited version is displayed as minorversion. The user can now continue to open the document for editing. However, it remains marked as checked out until it is checked in manually in the Content Navigator.

The behavior is sporadic and cannot be reproduced on purpose. There are users where the behavior never occurs and users where it occurs frequently. It is independent of the file type. The user opens the document, saves the change and then closes it. So nothing out of the norm. We have set the LogLevel for the Edit Service Client to Debug, but can't see anything unusual here.

I would be very grateful for any hints or tips on what else can be set here or what else can be looked at.

    Regards

    Michael

    Hi Michael,

your description does not exactly sound like

    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/1098507

but maybe it helps understanding the issue better.

Also we have currently a ticket with IBM where under certain circumstances annotations on the document are not displayed...

    Kind regards,

    /gerold

    Hi Michael,

This is new feature enhancement introduced from ICN3.0.11. Please check 'Process changes for documents when you edit with Edit Service client' of What's new part in https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/content-navigator/3.0.11?topic=navigator-whats-new-users-in-content-3011
"If the document is already checked out before you edit it with the Edit Service client, the document remains checked out. When you complete the edit, the document is saved to the repository. The version is unchanged.

If the document is not checked out before you edit it with the Edit Service client, when you complete the edit, the document change is checked in to the repository. The version is incremented."

    Thanks,
    Jason

Thank you, this gives with a little deeper understanding into the check in/out process.
I wonder if there are separate release notes for the Edit Service client with the enhancements or if they are generally listed in the Content Navigator?

Normally the FixPacks in Fix Central are attached with ReadMe files.

    Regards Michael

    Hi Michael,

I don't think there are separate release notes for the Edit Service client. They are generally listed in the Content Navigator.

    Thanks,
    Jason
