  • 1.  Drill-through to datasource type other

    I'm struggling with setting up a drill-through to details that are in a csv file.

    The developer documentation on setting up drill processes is very, very weak on the datasource type of other. When this datasource type is chosen it will open up a new TI process where the only options are 'none', 'cube view' or 'odbc'. I have tried with none and setup the source for the process in the prolog;

    pFilePathName = 'D:\Sourcefiles\TransactionData.csv';

    DatasourceNameForServer=pFilePathName;
    DatasourceNameForClient=pFilePathName;
    Datasourcetype='CHARACTERDELIMITED';

    When I execute the drill from Architect I get an error message 'Drill object was successfully built but did not return a valid handle.'

    For some reason it is not possible to use a drill with this datasource type in PAW where the drill name does not show up.

    Any ideas are much appreciated.

    Rgds,
    Jesper

    Hi Jesper,

    There maybe limitations with Drill Through with PAW - Here is what is available:

    Drill through PAW

    1. Drill through / Excel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsgWFBTBCYw or https://www.ibm.com/communities/analytics/planning-analytics-blog/analyze-detailed-data-by-using-drill-throughs-in-ibm-planning-analytics-for-microsoft-excel/ ""
    2. Drill through / PAW - https://www.ibm.com/communities/analytics/planning-analytics-blog/drill-through-in-pa-workspace/ "Drill Thru to a View or a Relational DB is now supported in Workspace "
    3. There are plans to offer drill through via websheets. There is no target date for websheets.

    I guess the documentation (at least the developer guide) has not yet been update regarding this 😏

    Perspectives Drill Through

    In Planning Analytics Architect / Perspectives or TM1web when a drill through for a view is selected it takes the user to the Drill Through View which has previously been setup.

    PAX Drill Through

    When you do a Drill through in PAX it opens up a empty cube view. Is this correct and the way PAX will be handling drill through to cubes in the future?

    Hi Herman
    When I drill in PAX, it opens the same predefined view as if I do this in Architect or PAW. In my case, all selected elements are reflected in the view so it aligns with the source for drilling.

    Hello Jesper,

    I have been working through the Drill Through in PAX.

    It seems to be the drill through works fine when you have a fixed view but we use a  number of drills which use a method of creating the view on the fly via the Drill Through process. This method works fine in TM1web / Perspectives but isn't recognised in PAX.

    Regards

    Jesper,

    After a bit more of an investigation we found the issue.

    Drill through in PAX works only if you have Dimension in Row and Column . In our scenario we only had a dimension in Row and hence not retrieving anything. This means we can use our existing Drill Through but need to tweak the TI process to ensure we always have a dimension in the Rows / Columns.

    Regards

    Herman
