AIX has sendmail that forwards email to a central email server via SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol).

Sendmail has been the backbone of UNIX (including AIX) email systems for decades.
Your Office 365 client can connect in to the same email server to get your email for you to read and send new email.

I have operating here at IBM, were I setup the AIX part to connect to the IBM central email server, which handles email to my Windows 11 Laptop.

    For more information see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simple_Mail_Transfer_Protocol

Setting up sendmail is complicated because it seems to have 10,000 options, so it is worth finding a good worked example for AIX. For my AIX systems it turns out to be a one line change in the config, to get it working.

You will need to know the hostname or IP address of your central email server and the port number (default is 25).
