  • 1.  Does GLMM use penalized quasi-likelihood for non-normal data?

I've read that GLMM uses penalized quasi-likelihood as estimation method for non-normal data (e.g. gamma). Is this correct?

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, I'm not able to open the document. Is it possible to send it to me?

This is a pdf file.  You should be able to access it here.  It is 76mb, which is too large to mail.

    From one of our statisticians:

"The short answer is yes. I think parameter estimation for a GLMM (non-normal data) is based on restricted maximum pseudo-likelihood, or REPL. GLMM implements REPL-PQL to estimate the random effects."
