Does CentraSite Governance Editition 7.1 require an actual relational database (DB2/SQL Server/Oracle etc.)?

We are in the long drawn out process of acquiring it, and from the documentation I have seen, I get the idea that it is just storing all the repository data in XML file(s). Can that be right?

No. Currently, CentraSite Governance Edition stores all of its registry data in a relational database. Out of the box it comes with HSQLDB, but it is also certified to work with Oracle, DB2 and SQL Server.

As for the repository data (supporting document library), CentraSite GE may store it either in the file system or in one of the above relational databases.
