Do I need to delete everything or is there another solution to this problem?

    Hi,

    I have a few problems with SPSS and no one seems to be able to help me. I hope someone here can.

    I'm using MacOs catalina on a macbook pro and the problem is with SPSS statistics 26.

    First of all opening SPSS opens fine and from there on everything seems to work except opening a new document. This is because it shows no documents to open.

    Then I had to download an SPSS document for school with data necessary for an assignment. When I download this I get an error: "failed to connect to remote server".

    After a while it opened and I was able to save it on my mac, still couldn't open it from SPSS. And opening it from my desktop worked sometimes, but most times it gave the same error.

    So, I just left the document open, because this became pretty annoying. Now, while working with SPSS I created my first Syntax file, which I saved and closed. Now trying to open this file again doesn't work. But now there's no error given, it just gives a short loading screen and then nothing.

    Opening it from my desktop, as well as from SPSS both doesn't work.

    I feel like I did something wrong while downloading. To start with I downloaded statistics 27, but we didn't need this for school. So I deleted it and then downloaded 26. Now I feel like I deleted some programmes which I should have left on my mac. Because when going to applications there's no folder with IBM, just a few separate folders with some IBM files.

    Trying to fix all these problems I started opening the different files and applications. While opening the application 'SPSS Commuter Utility' I again got an error: "no server given for 'DreamHost' in spssprod.inf or environment variable 'LHOST'.

    If you haven't installed the fixpack, that's the first thing to try. Apple tends to break things with OS releases. Look here for fixpacks

    Thanks, but I think this is the problem that needs to be fixed first

    "DreamHost' in spssprod.inf or environment variable 'LHOST". And this error isn't in the selected fixes. So I could try this, but maybe you can tell me which one to get, so I don't have to download all them.

    And I already deleted everything and installed it again, same problems

    I don't know what kind of license you have. Can't help you on that. But the problems you describe don't sound like a license code issue. If you have a commuter license, you would need to speak to the issuer of that.

    But after you install the product, you do need to install the fixpack. No need to remove anything.

    I tried to download the 'silent' one, which is recommended for Macbooks, but my mac said the file was't supported.

    How do I find out what kind of of license I have? Because the fix patch I tried: the 'silent' one. But my mac said the file was't supported. So this also didn't work.

    I have to do an exam on this in 3 weeks and haven't been able to learn anything because it doesn't work properly. I really need some step by step, clear advice!

    Normally you would get an authorization code with the product, and you would enter that through the License Authorization Wizard that appears on your main system menu along with the launch item (or Mac equivalent).


    Otherwise, ask where you bought the product,

    I have an authorization code. SPSS is installed fine and it works until I want to open saved or downloaded items. This gives an error or nothing happens at all.

    No, I already said twice that first of all I have no idea what pack to download. And second, I tried the 'silent' one, bur my latptop didn't support it. So I have no idea what to do now.

    I tried and it didn't work! My macbook didn't support the fix pack. Don't understand why you keep telling me the same thing!
