I would like to have your opinion on a topology decision:
What would be the advantages and, most interestingly, the disadvantages of collocating a deployment manager server with one or more managed application servers on the same host?
Please share your experience on a topology like that.

This depends on your business needs, do you need to build a HA cluster?
this looks like you goning to deploy vertical cluster topology!

Thanks for the response. We are considering a mixed topology (both vertical and horizontal). But the issue is whether to collocate Dmgr with other servers or have a dedicated host for it.
In other words, what would be the arguments against collocation? 

during app install and plugin-cfg generation, dmgr can be quite ressource-intensive, which depending on your system configuration could influence applications running on the same host.

also, having dmgr on the same host with one of the nodes may not be quite good as in case of this node's host is down your dmgr will be down too so it is preferable to have dmgr on a separate host in order to be able to manage other nodes!

  I have the same experience that Christoph.  When the DMGRs is working in the same host of one of the nodes may influence the service. Ahmed warnings are true too.
 
  The last configurations that I have done is with DMGR Node in a dedicated virtual machine. The rest of the nodes depend, sometimes all virtualized machine or physical machines.
