  • 1.  DMC Error while starting up

    Hi,

    at a customer site I use an install of DMC 3.1.1.0. The customer installed the system on its own.
    When I start his console, I see an error like this (manually translated into English; part of it was in German):

    C:\Program Files\IBM Db2 Data Management Console>ECHO OFF
    *****Start SET DSHOME in BOOTSTRAP *****
    1 file(s) moved.
    Finish SET DSHOME in BOOTSTRAP
    This process might take 2-3 minutes to complete. Please wait...
    Server dsweb get started.
    Server dsweb was started.
    Error: Main class Files\IBM could not be found or loaded.

    What puzzles me is the error message at the end. If I check for the messages.log in C:\Program Files\IBM Db2 Data Management Console\resources\bin\logs
    I can find a big messages like this for a bunch of unused languages:

    [5/13/20 9:43:56:558 CEST] 00000031 m.ibm.ws.container.service.app.deploy.ManifestClassPathUtils W SRVE9967W: The manifest class path derbyLocale_pt_BR.jar can not be found in jar file wsjar:file:/C:/Program%20Files/IBM%20Db2%20Data%20Management%20Console/resources/bin/wlp/usr/servers/dsweb/apps/dbapi.war!/WEB-INF/lib/derby-10.14.2.0.jar or its parent.
    and these three lines are the only lines about errors:
    [5/13/20 9:44:11:491 CEST] 00000022 SystemErr R SLF4J: Failed to load class "org.slf4j.impl.StaticLoggerBinder".
    [5/13/20 9:44:11:510 CEST] 00000022 SystemErr R SLF4J: Defaulting to no-operation (NOP) logger implementation
    [5/13/20 9:44:11:510 CEST] 00000022 SystemErr R SLF4J: See http://www.slf4j.org/codes.html#StaticLoggerBinder for further details.

    So either the error message points to something different (not visible in the messages.log), or the message is misleading.

    What information might be neede to debug this and solve the issue?

    Hi Roland

    Try to install the DMC into a path without a white space in it. I think the issue is the white space in "Program Files" for the start script. Did you use the Zip or the GUI installer? I belive I had the same issue if when I had use the ZIP package, but I'm not sure. With the GUI Installer, I did not have this issue.

    Hi  Roland,

    Thanks for your feedback. It is recommended that you install DMC in a path that does not contain spaces. Hope we can fix this issue in future release.

    Hi Yun Bo,

    just out of curiosity I did a fresh install of DMC 3.1.1.0 with the GUI installer (=aka as my customer did).
    The default installer path containes loads of spaces. :-(

    Hi Roland,

    This error log information will not cause the DMC server to fail to start. If you want to avoid this error log during startup, do not include spaces in the installation path. Thanks for your feedback and hope to fix this issue in future release.

    For your information, this space problem was also there is DSM ... I don't understand why IBM keeps re-inventing the wheel with the same bugs every time.

    DMC release cycle is just too slow and a beta level program, that's sad.
