  • 1.  Dlpar in RHCOS ?

    Hi,

    Anyone knowing if Dlpar would be working in RHCOS VMs? 
    Is it doable even in theory? :)

    Hi Tommi,

    For sure you can do DLPAR on RHCOS VMs running on Power Systems, it's one of the advantage compared to x86 !

    Hi Thierry,

    I have clusters running on Power 8 one at version 4.6.22 and one at 4.7.3 with PowerVC at 2.0.1.  I tried your solution for RMC and it works fine but if I have to reboot a node when it comes back up RMC is no longer active.  Is there a way to restart it, did I miss something.

    Hello Tommi,

    We have a procedure available to enable RMC in rhcos for PowerVM. Nevertheless, I'm not 100% sure it's official yet.

    Even though it's valid, from a linux and Power perspective, I believe K8S/Kubelet is enabled for cpu/memory live change.

    As far as I know, the kubelet needs to be restarted to take cpu/memory changes into account.

    Hi Tommi:

    If I am not mistaken you have to install IBM productivity tool packages to support the dynamic LPAR functions on Linux partitions  (both Red Hat and Suse). You can download them  at https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/service-and-productivity-tools  (ibm-power-managed  is the Package)

    Also there  were a few differences between what was offered under PowerKVM and PowerVM (when it was announced originally) https://www.redbooks.ibm.com/technotes/tips1317.pdf 

    I have not worked in the recent years on that technology and if I find a Whitepaper, I will send it across to you.
