  • 1.  Disk VIOS High CPU Load

    Hello List,
    I'm facing high CPU Load on my DISK VIOS running 3.1.1.25.
    When investigating I stumbled over
    Why emfc_kpr use high CPU in VIOS 3.1?

    After migration from VIOS 2.2 to 3.1, why the emfc_kpr process is one of the top processes CPU consumption the list?

    We are using E980 with 4 VIOS concept (2 for Network IO - 2 for Disk IO).
    Expectation was that Network VIOS are the ones consuming more CPU.

    This is not true anymore since upgrade to VIOS 3.1.
    diskvio1e980b: 10:46AM up 197 days, 21 hrs, 2 users, load average: 9.89, 8.73, 8.24
    diskvio2e980a: 10:46AM up 9 days, 23 mins, 3 users, load average: 3.52, 3.24, 3.63
    diskvio1e980a: 10:46AM up 8 days, 18:09, 1 user, load average: 3.71, 3.71, 3.86
    diskvio2e980b: 10:46AM up 197 days, 21 hrs, 3 users, load average: 7.33, 7.15, 7.23

    Entitlement has been raised from 1.5 (which was more than enough in previo3.1 times) to 3 now on Disk VIOS.
    To plan for future Disk VIOS implementations I need to know how to calculate the Disk VIOS?

    Call has been opened at IBM side to track the situation.

    Has anybody else facing this?

    Hi,

    We don't have separate disk/network VIOSes, but both in same; Dual VIOS setup each frame, and we use always Dedicated (Donating) CPUs for VIOSes (2 CPUs per VIOS)

    Example output from E980 system with around 40 AIX lpars behind VIOSes
