  • 1.  Diagram editor doesn't work

    Posted Mon February 06, 2023 09:06 AM
    Hello!
I'm working with SPSS  for some time without major problems. But recently I have problems with my SPSS when editing graphics.
For editing I doubleclick on the graphic I want to edit, then another window opens, the "diagram editor" ( maybe it's called different in English, I'm using the German version)
Normally I would click on the menu to select an action or would -with a right button-click- click directly on the graphic. Thereby the problem shows up. It takes a lot of time ( one minute or so) to get the edit window opened. When I choose an action  then and click " apply" nothing happens and the spss program doesn't respond. But that only concerns the program editor, the rest seems to work. But it's not possible to close the whole program after trying to edit a graphic. I have to shut down my pc and start it again. When I reopen SPSS, the program tells me, that there was a problem with SPSS and let me choose a restore point.
I already deleted SPSS ( i was using SPSS 29) and reinstalled it. Afterwards I also deinstalled the freshly installed SPSS 29 and downloaded the older version 28. I then reset my whole pc and downloaded SPSS 28. The problem is still the same.

Thank you in advance, if you can recommend me a strategy to solve this problem!

Hi, Martha. I can't explain what's happening, but I hope that SPSS can; at least indirectly.

If you are on a Mac, please open a terminal window and enter this command:

    "/Applications/IBM SPSS Statistics/SPSS Statistics.app/Contents/MacOS/stats"

If you're on Windows, the directory you installed in is up to you, but by default it is:

    "C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS Statistics\29\stats.com"

Then repeat the scenario you mentioned. Check that terminal window and see if SPSS wrote anything back to it. If we could look at that, it might provide us with some clues as to what is going on.
