  • 1.  Detect version of MQ Client connecting to QMGR

    Posted Fri November 30, 2018 01:02 AM
    Hello,

We have a requirement to detect the version of MQ Client used by our applications connecting to the MQ Server.

I understand below commands are useful to get details of connections on both queues and channels

    dis qs(<QUEUE_NAME>) type(handle) all
display conn(*) where (channel EQ DEV.ADMIN.SVRCONN) APPLTAG CHANNEL CONNAME CONNOPTS

I believe for an MQ Client the APPLTAG property gives a generic value and not the version.
Is there a way to get the version of MQ client from the connection parameters ?

    Thanks,

You can use the following command:-

    DISPLAY CHSTATUS(channel-name) RVERSION

to see the version of the client.

Read more about this in a blog post I wrote:

    Hello Murtuza,

It is also available via MQ Explorer, when you right click on a channel, and select channel status

Also, while Morag doesn't mention it, I assume since she works for MQGem, and they own the MQMon tool, (the old IBM support pack).   That tool has an option on it's Channel Status List screen, to display the RVERSION.   (it also displays the version of remote QMGRs on active channels)

In this case I like the MQMon implementation a little bit more, because you have more flexibility in running it dynamically, and controlling the fields you can view.
