We are configured DB2 database for one of IBM ELM application and we are looking out the strategy of database backup at file system level in production environment.
I am new from this point so need someone assistance.

Hi Raj,

There are many different ways to protect DB2 databases.
1. Snapshots
2. Logical backup to a IBM Spectrum Protect server
3. Logical backup to a filesystem

Spictera Snapshot can be used to take snapshots of your DB2 instances, and save the data on an IBM Spectrum Protect backup server
Spictera SPFS can be used to take logical backups of your DB2 instances, and store this on the IBM Spectrum Protect backup server
DB2 backup database online use TSM is also an option
DB2 backup database online to /a/path is also on option

Hi Raj,

You can certainly do that but you have a number of considerations regarding recovery/restore and data consistency. (in flight transactions), file system layout etc. I would recommend to explore the regular Db2 backup/restore functionality first and then consider backup methods that are kind of a combination of Operating System technologies combined with Db2.

one can queisce the database and perform regular filesystem backup, and later perform an unquisce
But the time between the quiesce and unquiesce is not intended to be too long

So now you have several options.

Snapshot using FlashCopy
Snapshot with Spictera Snapshot using IBM Spectrum Protect
Logical backup using IBM Spectrum Protect
Logical backup to local filesystem
Logical backup to Spictera SPFS mounted IBM Spectrum Protect
