The migration can be very easy. You could do a one for one, IMS object to a Db2 table, then link the tables together with RI. This will allow for a quick conversion with minor program changes. However skipping the proper steps like doing all the stuff needed for a data model and possible data flow diagram before creating a single database object or any application code will give a better and easier to maintain system with reduced operational costs.
Hierarchical data products can be converted directly to Db2 but don't perform as good as a well designed relational model. Save your self some headaches and do it the correct way. You will be glad you did.
