Hi, i would like to start a career in big data. I would like to have your help to guide me on this choice please. I have a master degree in neurotoxicology and neuropsychopharmacology so i think that scientist data is the more convenient for me, do you think so? I read that IBM propose a free course online for free, do you know it? it is good or you have anyother recomendation?It is enough for start working? I read too that from collecting the data till exposing it and applying it in a enterprise strategy there is 5 diferent stages of data treatment, Do you recomend me one in particular because of it's strong demand on the market or because it'll be more logically articulated with my past studies? Jonas, I have worked at a large pharma company for 25 years. While supporting their R&D division I worked with many scientists. The applications that they use here in the states for pharma data analytics are Matlab and R. I just completed the Coursera IBM Data Science Professional Certificate course. I definitely recommend it as an intro to data science that the primary tools used in the field. Although Big Data, Spark and Hadoop are where the field is headed, in reality most investigations and trials yield far less data than that typically used in the Big Data arena. for entering into the field I would work to become proficient in R, Python (jupyter notebooks), Watson Studio for access to the IBM AI and ML tools, and Matlab. While studying search out virtual internships that you can perform remotely. One silver lining with covid-19 is a lot more training/internships or being offered remotely.

Hi Jonas, I have a background similar to yours, as I have a PhD in neuroscience but I have then changed into bioinformatics and now I am developing a career as health informatician in NHS. As Nasser has recommended you it is important to understand what are your interests so then you can direct your efforts to acquire new skills or refine those you already have. Do you just want a generic job in big data or you want something more related to your background (e.g. working on pharmaceutical/health/bioinformatics data? Do you have any programming experience? I would recommend you a solid grasp of SQL and Python or R, there are plenty of courses available just looking on google (e.g. Coursera and Edx).
