Twice now I've been creating a new dataset from a data module but then after an error found that the data module I was using as a source had completely disappeared from my environment. Both times I was creating a dataset from modules that had few columns but an absolutely huge number of rows which probably caused the issue. Both times I was also experiencing network lag which could have caused either my browser or Cognos to have performance issues.
My real question is not about the error, but what strategies are available for backup and recovery of a data module? The knowledge center info about backing up content states that this is mainly used when moving from test to prod environment or for upgrade prep. I'd hate to use a large amount of server storage for regular backups yet losing certain data modules would be a huge disruption.
