  • 1.  Data Management Console Event Monitor Tables are being created with "compress yes"?

Hi there, I recently went through license compliance checking and it turned out that there was a license violation, namely table compression.

The 4 tables for the lock event monitor where created with "compress yes adaptive" on the DB2 Database monitored.

Was this done by the DMC (currently V3.1.13.1)?

    Hello Michael,

Yes, DMC requires some additional Db2 features for the repository database.

That's the reason why we provide a "restricted" Db2 license to be used for the repository database only, so customers don't need to buy a special license.

You can download the restricted Db2 license from IBM Fix Central:

    Hi Michael,

The same happens if you create the Lock event monitor by hand, on the command line, using the standard DB2 command:

db2 "CREATE EVENT MONITOR EVMON_FOR_LOCKING FOR LOCKING WRITE TO TABLE ..."

The main problem is there doesn't seem to exist an option to prevent the creation of the EVMON tables as COMPRESSED, which is the silent default option (and seemingly the only one available).

Consequently, when you create an EVMON, you end up with licence violation (if you're not covered for compression).

This happened to one client of ours, several years back, and to say the least they weren't happy about it :-)

Thank you very much for all the hints and tips, I ended up changing to "alter table compress no" and the license check went OK.

    Hi Mark,

Thanks for the link, I wasn't aware of that particular article on Ember's blog site, this is a (very) old story indeed!

Although I can't completely agree with the following statement (taken from the article):

UPDATE, 10/21/2015: Please see the comment from IBM at the end stating that despite the information they gave Jim via PMR, this compression does not cause a lack of license compliance even if you are not licensed for compression.

We've had the same situation with a client a while ago and they had to pay a penalty for not being compliant :-(

    Regards, Damir
