Hi,

On a Dashboard  Chart I am trying to rename the field name display.

Currently I am doing this via creating a calculation and using the Field (Package created via FM) with required name. However this requires a unique names on each Data Item (when a different sources/Table having same name, this gets difficult).

But I don't find a way to do this similar to Reports (where it had option to rename the Data Item labels).Can someone has better method/way to achieve this (without changing FM package)?

Example - On Below Chart, I would like to rename "Type" to "Report Type"

Hi Chandra,
You can accomplish this by creating calculations, giving it the desired column name, and drag the item into the calculation and use it in any visualization:
1. Click the three dots to create a new calculation .
2. The calculation holds the hour name item, and I have dragged it into the canvas besides the original item.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I was following same approach on creating a Calculation. But with this way, we will need to create many Calculations to accommodate different fields. And when we have multiple sources/tables having same field name and which needed to be used under different tabs, then it would require a unique names from each of these source/tables. 

In Report Studio this was much easier to change the Data Item Label, and I was looking for a method where I dont need to create multiple Calculations for renaming field.

Any other way we can rename the field?

Hi Chandra, thanks for the question.

The column headers on Dashboard Table and Crosstab visualizations are a direct projection of the column header from your data. While you can style the text of the label in the header (change the font family, colour, bold, italicize, etc.), the only way to change the label itself is to change the column name directly in the data, or as suggested above, to use a calculation or another data field that is created within Cognos Analytics.

The Cognos Analytics product team is very open to enhancing this experience. We be grateful for your help to prioritize this enhancement on our roadmap.
