Presumably these would not be an issue if the script is run on server startup before these components are started.

Hi,
Actually it is documented - https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/informix-servers/14.10?topic=database-buildsmi-script
However it could still change in future versions.
Regards,
David.

Thank you, David.
So, are you saying that, essentially, 'buildsmi' really doesn't do all that is actually necessary to properly rebuild sysmaster?

Hi,
It could be doing/running other things on top of buildsmi and this could also change in future versions.
I know for sysadmin it running patches after the initial build, you can see that in the online.log.
Easier for them to tell you to restart Informix.

David.

Solaris 10 1/13
IDS 12.10.FC14
In a recent tech support case, we needed to rebuild sysmaster. (Sysmaster had been dropped.) The engineer told me not to run 'buildsmi', but to bounce Informix. I did and, of course sysmaster was rebuilt.
I should have asked, but didn't. Is there a difference between running 'buildsmi' and bouncing Informix, with regard to how sysmaster is rebuilt?
Why would it make a difference whether I specifically (manually) executed 'buildsmi',. vs, bouncing Informix and letting it rebuild SMI? Wouldn't Informix just execute 'buildsmi' anyway?
