Consistent text formatting across Planning Analytics Workspace

    Hi everyone,

we have just submitted a new enhancement idea to the IBM Ideas portal:

Provide consistent and extended text formatting capabilities across Planning Analytics Workspace

πŸ‘‰ Provide consistent and | IBM Data Platform Ideas Portal for Customers

We would like to get some feedback from the Planning Analytics community on whether others are seeing the same issue.

    What is the problem?

PAW already offers a good range of text-formatting capabilities, but they differ depending on the object and on how the text is formatted.

For example, we found noticeable differences between:

    • Text objects

    • View titles

    • Single Cell visualizations

There are also two different approaches to formatting:

    1. Visual properties / property panels / Format Manager

    2. Markdown / rich-text formatting, where supported

This can lead to situations where a formatting option is available in one context but not another.

For example, a Text object may provide padding, vertical alignment, line height and lists, while a View Title provides a much smaller set of layout options.

Single Cell adds another interesting case: it supports Markdown-based rich text, including lists and hyperlinks, but some formatting capabilities available through its visual properties are not available through Markdown, such as underline.

    What are we proposing?

The idea is not to make every PAW object support exactly the same features.

Instead, we propose a common core text-formatting model for PAW wherever text formatting is supported.

The important point is that the same core formatting should behave consistently across applicable objects and formatting mechanisms.

Additional capabilities can remain object-specific where they make sense.

We'd like to hear from the community

Have you hit the same gaps between Text objects, View titles and Single Cell?

Which missing formatting option costs you the most time or leads to workarounds?

IBM: Is a shared text-formatting model on the roadmap, or are the different formatting mechanisms intentional?

Tooltip formatting is intentionally not part of this idea, as we are treating that as a separate enhancement.

πŸ‘‰ Please vote and comment on the idea if this would help in your PAW applications.

    Thanks in advance!
