Since this is probably a new map, you can install 8.0 under a different user ID on your UNIX server, and just run this map in 8.0, until you migrate the rest of your maps/systems over.

You can have 6.7.1 and 8.0 Design Studio on the same Windows box, however you do not want to open a map by double clicking. There have been issues with the Windows Registry.

Best bet is to drag .mms file to the correct Map Designer icon (same thing with .mtt etc.
