Configure global filters manually

Hello everyone I am currently using IBM cognos version 11.2.4 , can anyone please guide on to configure global filters using the dropdown list visualization option such that when the user changes the values on the filters present in the first tab the values in the visualizations are simultaneously updated in the other tabs as well hence allowing the user to filter once only on the filters applied in the first tab

    Hi Priya,

    I assume you're using dashboards?

Unforunatly you cannot achieve this by widget connections for visualizations:

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cognos-analytics/11.2.0?topic=filters-disconnecting-visualizations-filter-widgets

Neither adding a filter widget to canvas will work for all tabs simultaneously:

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cognos-analytics/11.2.0?topic=filters-adding-filter-widget

Maybe the nested dashboard widget from version 12 will fulfill your requirement (I think it is available as a Sample or an Accelerator in version 11.2):

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/cognos-analytics/12.0.0?topic=dashboards-nested

    Best regards,

    Philipp

    Hi Philipp,

Thank you very much for replying , yes I am using dashboards . I am working on a requirement where the clients wants to have the all tabs section which has the global filters to be dragged to the left side of the screen instead of the top. Hence I am currently working on the following two ways but not being able to achieve the desired result:
    1) Using CSS to drag the all tabs section to the left
    2) Configuring global filters manually using the list dropdown widget for all the tabs

Please find the screenshot for more reference

Also can you please let me know where I can find Sample or an Accelerator in version 11.2

The CA Extension from the Accelerator Catalog is this one:

    https://accelerator.ca.analytics.ibm.com/bi/?perspective=authoring&pathRef=.public_folders%2FIBM%2BAccelerator%2BCatalog%2FContent%2FEXT00079&id=i0E7D1006CA6246F9B513009AB6781490&objRef=i0E7D1006CA6246F9B513009AB6781490&action=run&format=HTML&cmPropStr=%7B%22id%22%3A%22i0E7D1006CA6246F9B513009AB6781490%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22reportView%22%2C%22defaultName%22%3A%22EXT00079%22%2C%22permissions%22%3A%5B%22execute%22%2C%22read%22%2C%22traverse%22%5D%7D

I think(!) I've read somewhere in the community that this even gets converted to the out-of-the-box widget in version 12 automatically on upgrade. But I don't guarantee this.

    Hello Philipp,

I would like to thank you big as the extension of the tab widget in the link above solved my problem. Thank you very much

    Hello Philip,

I have an another query below requesting if you could please provide some guidance if there is an already available custom widget for reset filter like the one you mentioned for nested tabs or if you could please look at the files below and let me know what is wrong.

    Query:

I am currently working on a requirement to make a reset filter button using custom widget to be applied on a dashboard in the Cognos Version 11.2.4 by packaging custom HTML/JavaScript file and spec.json in a zip file. However when I upload the zip file under Manager-> Customization->Extensions I receive the error as given in the screenshot .

Please find the code of the custom HTML/JavaScript file and spec.json file . Also find the screenshot of the information obtained on using browser developer tools (right-click on the filter and select "Inspect" or press F12) to examine the HTML structure and identify the classes or IDs used for the filter applied on the dashboard

    Thank you

    Hi Priya,

why don't you use the default button to reset the dashboard instead? It will reset the filters and reloads the dashboard in its initial state:

    Hi Priya,

this button is only visible when changes to the dashboard have been made whilst using it as viewer. As soon as you have selected some data point, changed/applied a filter criteria or switched a visualization to another one, the button will be visible.

Just leave the edit mode and view the dashboard.
