    Hi,

I have a task assigned to install TSM for SAN Library is connected to SAN switch what is the correct process to perform and configure the lanfree backup. I believe we have to perform zoning also no clue on that also how to perform zoning on that. If anyone can provide the document it will be a great help.

    Hi Prem,

Lots of questions but first I'd suggest having a read through the Storage Agent reference material....

    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSSQZW_7.1.1

    Warmest Regards,

    Emma.

Another thing below statement is true I found a interesting article but on this point I have a confusion which driver exactly he is suggesting to install.

To implement LANFREE Backup we need to zone tape drives to the LANFREE client. This zoning work will be done by the storage team. Once the tape drives are zoned to LANFREE client we need to install tape drive drivers (LTO) drivers in the LANFREE client then only the client will recognize the tape drive hardware.

He is suggesting to install the tape library drive to install on every client where storage agent residing . can anyone clarify on that point.

    Thanks

    Prem

    Hi,

You will need a device driver installed on each LAN-free client to allow the operating system to communicate with the FC tape device.

If you are using an IBM tape library then you will need the IBM Atape device driver, which can be download from the support/fix central web site.

If it is a non-IBM library, then you may just be able to get it working using the generic TSM/Spectrum Protect device driver that can be installed from the Storage Agent install package.

When defining you drive paths for the LAN-free client, remember to use the Windows tsmdlist utility to get the correct Windows device names for your drives.

    Hi Darren,

Thanks for the help an detail information I will use IBM 3100 tape library which has 2 drive that means I will have to install 3100 driver only on those machine where storage agent will install. Please correct me if I am wrong. Please let me know the process how to setup Hyper -v full vm backup after installing the storage agent. I tried but could not find the correct doc which has process to follow the instructions.

    Thanks

There are diff use cases for each of the env you mentioned:

    1. Spectrum Protect (TSM) server with Sharable Tape Library (on SAN)

    2. LANFree data movement for backing up client node

    3. Spectrum Protect for VE

The 2nd is dependent on the 1st.

The 3rd is backing up the VMs using the Data Mover (Seprate for Windows & Linux)

Which of these are you installing?

    Hi Prem,

The TSM for VE functionality of Hyper-V is very basic compared to what is offered with VMware.

I believe you'll need to employ a command schedule and specify a backup VM command: See https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SS8TDQ_7.1.1/com.ibm.itsm.ve.hv.doc/r_ve_hv_cmd_backup.html

    Thanks and Regards,

    Emma.
