We have Connect:Direct 5655-X11 for z/OS and we have Connect:Direct for Windows.  Within our company these two products are managed by different teams.  The Windows team is updating from 6.1 to 6.4 and is stating that the z/OS version must be updated simultaneously to maintain compatibility.  That seems unlikely to me.

Is Connect:Direct 6.4 not compatible with 6.1?

IBM Sterling Connect:Direct for Microsoft Windows 6.4 is compatible with IBM Sterling Connect:Direct for z/OS 6.1.

No need to upgrade them simultaneously.

You can open a case with IBM support to confirm but per my recent encounter for a similar CD upgrade between windows and Unix CD, CD is backwards compatible but your version of CD 5.x is likely out of support. Open an inquiry with ibm support to confirm would be your best bet.
