Howdy Jeff
Basically it's like comparing apples and oranges.. (your words ;) ) . Hard to compare stuff from HW perspective and entire topology, configuration etc is changed...
Mako: baremetal OS, CP4D/Cloud: container
Mako: dedicated fabric links, CP4D: shared fabric (with external net), Cloud: virtual
Mako: HDD, CP4D: SSD, Cloud: (?)
etc, etc.
From SW perspective - seems like it is basically as good old NPS,,,,just in Cp4D/Cloud in container (treat as jumping from TF RHEL 5 to Striper/Mako RHEL 6). Few things like eventmgr moved to external container (now maybe more elementas are split and made as indyvidual PODs) - but blades/SPUs topolog is rather remianing the same (so PXE booted OS... but maybe in CP4D/Cloud is now as OS installed on disk... somebody from IBM maybe can clarify).
