just a quick note to flag that instances have interfaces directly connected to the public ip, which is less than ideal

fact is i had to allow my previous instance allocation to expire because the app i want to test wasn't sufficiently hardened to permit exposure to the public until now

without calling too much attention to this please consider this a suggestion box item to

• permit trial instance users to apply ip layer 3 filtering the better to block the parts of the internet that should not or must not have access to the instance
• for extra points permit trial instance users to have observability into connections made to the instance

I'm not sure I understand your questions correctly. If you are concerning your app in the instance not being protected properly, I think you can use firewall, like iptables, to protect your instance from Internet.
