  • 1.  Column chart item axis formatting

    Posted Thu April 04, 2024 09:03 AM
    Hi,
I am not sure whether I am overlooking something or if what I am attempting to accomplish is not possible.

I have a column chart comparing Actuals vs Budget, and a selector to choose between EBITA or EBITA %. I've formatted both EBITA and EBITA % in a specific way (database formatting), but the visualization doesn't seem to apply these formats in the item axis. Even though the format for the chart is set to "use database format", it instead applies some kind of default formatting.

As shown in the screenshots, there's no thousands separator in the item axis formatting when I select EBITA. If I choose EBITA %, it displays two decimals instead of just one, as seen in the cube view below.

I'm aware that I can format the item axis in PAW like in the screenshot below, but then this format is applied to both EBITA and EBITA %, which obviously doesn't make sense because for EBITA % it just shows 0 then.

Has anyone had the same issue and found a solution, or is this currently not possible?
    Best regards,
    Mario

    Hi Mario,

You can apply the format to the dimension members separately in the dimension editor:

    Hi Svetlana,

    Thank you for your response.

    I did that.

That was my point, the item axis formatting does not seem to apply the database formatting. The item axis formatting does not show a thousands separator and % shows two decimals instead of one decimal.

    Best regards,

    Mario

    Hi Mario,

This is a limitation with the current formatting in our visualizations still. When using database format, the visualization doesn't actually know what that database format is, then by default it uses no formatting.
However, there is a workaround by applying PAW formats. In your example, you are trying to have different formats for members EBITA and EBITA %, so what you can do is apply a format for the member EBITA to be in Thousands, and apply another format for member EBITA % to be in percentage as you need.
When the chart is switching between these two items via the selector widget, it will correctly use the format that was applied to that member.

We probably should make that work more intuitive in the future.

    Best regards,
