  • 1.  Collector disk space - VM environment

    Hi Experts,

For the Guardium collector, we assigned 1 TB, but when checking the DB utilization, it shows only 470 GB of memory space. Why is that? Will the remaining 500 GB of disk space be occupied by Guardium?

    Thanks,

    Hi

So this is done by default.

We usually reserve 50% of the disk for the internal database and then 50% for the OS.

This is specific to a collector, for a CM/aggregator it's 25% for the OS.

You can use the below commands to alter this default setting:
    show disk_space_reserved
    store disk_space_reserved custom
    store disk_space_reserved reset

But be warning support doesn't advise exact values and changing these could impact other functionality.

    Hope that helps

    Best regards

Hi Mark. For what purpose does the OS need 50% or 25% in case of aggregator? If I want to store a lot of data on a aggregator that is for example 10 TB big, does it really need 2.5 TB for OS? Is it because of backups maybe?

Here is a documentation link for the cli commands:

But it really doesn't go into too much depth, but it may help.

Storage Usage shows how much datastore space is occupied by virtual machine files, including configuration and log files, snapshots, virtual disks, and so on. When the virtual You can set a size between 0.001 GB and 8 TB for a Game zone virtual disk file. You can also select whether to store a virtual disk as a single file or split it into multiple files. Select Split virtual Virtual disk files store the contents of the virtual machine hard disk drive. Almost all of the file content is virtual machine data. A small portion of the file is allotted to virtual machine overhead.
