  • 1.  Cognos v12.0 0 Watson or No Watson

    I just watched a Cognos v12.0 webinar with presenter Tim Aston, IBM Cognos Product Manager. His demo screen showed "IBM Cognos Analytics with Watson" - same as Cognos v11.4. However, the on-prem version that I downloaded a few weeks ago shows only "IBM Cognos Analytics" (no Watson). So, I'm confused. Is Watson still lurking in the background of Cognos, or has Watson been exorcised from the Cognos platform?

    to my knowledge, it is only "marketing" to remove the phrase from the product name.

    This is correct.  The demo was recorded before the text was removed.  In fact Cognos 12.0.0 has more Watson technology than ever in it.  But having that stated in the product name was just too much of a mouthful so we went back to keeping it simple.

    While Tim is not wrong that including "with Watson" made the name more of a mouthful.... the reason we have dropped the "with Watson" naming convention is that more and more IBM products are including AI capabilities - with a common Watson technology foundation fed from cross-IBM Research and Development team collaboration.  It does not make sense to add "with Watson" to practically all IBM products going forward.   (Back in the day we had products with " for Internet" in the name.)
