    Posted Mon October 25, 2021 10:31 AM
    Hi Cognos Community!

We observed that a number of the tabs on our dashboard are now displaying query errors. We did not make changes to the data module or dashboard prior to the error occurring:

"Query Service internal error has occurred" and "some data set items used in this visualization are unavailable"

Also, how can I view the "log" referenced below for further details?

Has anyone run into these errors and any thoughts on how to resolve?

    Hello Kat,

This issue could be caused by a few different things.  Not knowing anything about your environment, data sources, etc. I'd be hesitant to start recommending things.  Your best bet for proper help and troubleshooting would be to create a support ticket with IBM.  The support team has all the proper knowledge and tools to get to the bottom of your issue in the fastest way possible.   You can start here:  https://www.ibm.com/mysupport/

    Good Afternoon,

I hope that your day is going well. It appears that you have updated to a newer verson of Cognos Analytics and imported a dashboard from the older version.  I recommend that you click edit, drag and drop a similar visual to the canvas, use Save As to save the report, and then reopen.  That should work.

    Warm Regards,
    Eli

On the server this is running off of check C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\analytics\logs dashboard queries run in dynamic mode and therefore any logs will be in the XQE folder.  Sometimes with DQM a change in data or data type stored can completely wreck a model/query and cause these errors.   Also, a of times these issues are caused simply by IIS (if running windows), so you may also want to check the event viewer logs on that windows server.

Tips that I have used in past to fix similar issues
    - Check logs to see if issue is with query
    - Relink package to dashboard , sometimes COGNOS "will lose track" of dashboard packages.  Especially if running in multi-server environment.
    - Check developer mode / console on browser running dashboard for any errors that may help
    - Check IIS header settings.  If using a lot of objects you may need to increase size of headers/cookie allowed

Hopefully one or more of these helps solve your issue

    Hi Kat,

We experienced this error after upgrading from 11.0.11 to 11.1.7 FP3; dashboard was working perfectly fine in 11.0.11 and nothing has changed in the content but still it stopped working in 11.1.7 FP3. We have a ticket open with IBM but they haven't figured it out yet. For us, the same viz if built in a report doesn't produce any error.

    1) Do you have any filters for the dashboard and are you selecting all the values for any of those? If so, try selecting few or deselect all and check.
    2) If you have any local filters applied to the visualizations, try to change the filters to check against IDs if possible and not names
    3) Do you have a data module with multiple sources in it as a source to this dashboard? If so, try to apply a filter in the viz that essentially replicates the join condition between the sources.

Let me know if any of the above scenarios matches your situation and if the above solutions helped.

    Regards,

Hi Kat - Another option for logging is to use "Log my Session" under My Preferences, it will tell you what the name of the log file (and dataset log file) will be.  Also, to rule out any interference from the Gateway IIS values as suggested above, you can access Cognos directly from the Dispatcher server via http://localhost:9300.
