  • 1.  Cloudera Impala Driver / Datasource for Cognos Analytics 11.2.

    Hi all.

    We are trying to connect to a Cloudera Impala data source but can't logon to the datasource.

    Driver (downloaded from Cloudera Homepage): ClouderaImpala_JDBC-2.6.15.1017 (copied to cognos/drivers folder)

    While testing the data source, we get following error message:

    XQE-DS-0006 Unable to logon to the data source.

    [Cloudera][ImpalaJDBCDriver](500593) Communication link failure. Failed to connect to server. Reason: Socket is closed by peer. OpenSession.

    [Cloudera][ImpalaJDBCDriver](500593) Communication link failure. Failed to connect to server. Reason: Socket is closed by peer. OpenSession.

    Socket is closed by peer.

    Do you have any ideas? Is something missing or do we need an other version?

    Hi Jens,

    Which Cognos version do you use? v11.2.0 or later.

    It seems for instance that with v11.2.1 and later, only Cloudera Impala version 3.1 and later are supported.

    Hi Patrick. 

    We have Cognos Analytics running in Version 11.2.1.

    The Data Source is a Impala Version 3.2.0 on Cloudera CDH 6.3.2.

    Should we try other JDBC drivers?
    Or do we have to add connection properties? (we only use a connection string like this jdbc:impala://<host>:<port>/<databasename>)

    Succsess: Now it is working with following configuration (we had to copy an additional file for the java keystore):

    Connection String
    jdbc:impala://<host>:<port>/<databasename>

    ConnectionProperties
    SSL=1;AuthMech=3;SSLTrustStore=C:\<filelocation>\cacerts.jks

    Review your connection definition regarding what name-value pairs you may be missing that the driver requires.

    Further, you are using an older Impala driver circa (July 2019).

    Please ensure to review any changes the Cloudera (Simba) introduced in more recent releases re name-value pairs etc.

    If your company scans for CVE's, note that in more recent releases Cloudera (Simba) remediated issues re log4j and so on.
