  • 1.  Cloning Volume or VM Failed - Volume-type is 'None'

    Posted Fri February 02, 2024 02:03 PM

PowerVC 2.1.1 trying to clone a volume and receive message
    "Clone operation failed for volume(s)
Explanation: Volume-type is 'None' for XYZXYZXYZ . Set the volume-type and retry.

Has anyone else encountered this ?
Where would this be in the GUI or is this some type of undocumented hocus-pocus ?

@Alan Fulton )) Clone VM internally does clone of volumes attached to a VM.
We have mentioned the requirement in https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/powervc/2.1.1?topic=volumes-clone,

however explicitly we have not mentioned about this in Clone VM documentation page[https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/powervc/2.1.1?topic=machines-clone-virtual]. Thank you for pointing this out, we will create an internal ticket to add this in our documentation.

For snapshot, we have documented this but for clone it's somehow missed.

    Thank you Abhinav  -
I am receiving the same message
    Cloning the VM while up
    Cloning the VM while down
Cloning an individual storage volume while up and attached.
Cloning an individual storage volume while detached

Volume-type is 'None' for XXXXXX.  Set the volume-type and retry.
