Changing names of calculated entries appearing in legend in dahsboard

  • 1.  Changing names of calculated entries appearing in legend in dahsboard

May be a simple question. Is it possible to change the name of calculated fields or hided the string "(calculated)" appearing next to the variable names in legend.

For example in the below diagram,

Is is possible to edit legend entries and have them without the string (calculated) appearing in the entries like below

    Dear Rizwan,

this looks like a report to me - not a dashboard.

If you're using a chart and you select the query item in your series, you can chose the source for your text:
It can be "Data item value" or "Member caption" - depending on what is in your data item.

Thanks Robert, I couldn't get the point. I am building a dashboard in which, Marimekko is used as one of the charts. As an example, I gave the diagram above, in which Camping, Mountaineering, Personal Acc, Outdoor, Golf are calculated variables from other variables. These variables are used in Marimekko diagram, as you seen above. The chart by default gives these names in the legend along with (calculated) in the bracket. I do not want to have (calculated) next to the names in the legend list, but use calculated fields in the marimekko however.

I'm still wondering where did you get your chart done? I also created a quick marimekko chart in a dashboard with the same smaple date and it looks totally different:
And even here: no "(calculated)" in the legend text. Have you done something to the data that's used as colour so the dashboard thinks it's a calculation?

    By the way:

this is the Marimekko chart built in a report:

Hi Robert, Thanks for the response. I just used an illustrative figure from the internet to get an explanation.

In my case, yes, the calculated fields are used directly in marimekko. As a result, in the legend, all these fields are printed with the text (calculated) next to it (just see the figure I posed above). I do not want "(calculate)" next to it and don't know how to avoid it.

I mean, I aggregated certain variables (which are calculated fields) and used it to plot marimekko. And, the string "(calculated)" sticks in all the entries in the legend.

    Hi Rizwan,

what kind of data source do you use in your dashboard? Is it a relational or dimensional model? And how do you calculate your data used in the chart?
I tried to create the same chart with calculated data but "calculated" does not appear on my dashboard.

Hi Robert, I used data directly from an excel file. I aggregated some numeric columns (which are calculated fields) by summing them up. Once these calculated fileds are plotted in marimekko and legend is applied, it shows calculated next to it.

    Hi Rizwan,
I tried to do it the same way and yes "calculated" appears in the legend label and I found no setting in the chart properties to get rid of them. It might be the best option to change your data instead.
I'm wondering why you have to aggregate attributes? Cognos will do as "select distinct"/"group by" anyways when presenting these information in data.

Thanks for checking it Robert. Unfortunately I had to do it, since these calculated fields are mandatory to reflect the result and not the original variables. I thought this happens because the calculated fileds have the same names as the variables from which I aggregated them. However, even after changing the name in the data source, I get always calculated next to the result, once I plot them. May be I have to think somehow to change the data as you mention.

If you are familiar with data modules I suggest to create all calculated columns there. You can import your Excel file into a data module and do your modeling approach there.
