  • 1.  Change Port Instana-Backend

    Posted Mon January 29, 2024 11:06 PM

    Hi Experts,

Customers from Banking using McAfee antivirus which can block Instana-Backend and Instana-Backend cannot installed. The issues are McAfee using port 8081 which is same with Instana-Backend using port 8081 too.

Can we change the port for Instana-Backend installation?
Does anyone had same problem with us? How to solve this?
    Thanks.

    Hi Ahmad,

No, there is no way to change the port right now, our team is working on improving the documentation to state this situation.

    Have a nice day,

    Hello fellow self-hoster Ahmad,

We don't have the issue you are having, but agree with you that it should be configurable.

This is why we would prefer that in addition to the "operator" approach being used to deploy Instana, to make things easier, there should also be support for a technology-native answer.  The "operator" approach assumes that IBM knows how I currently intend to self-host as well as future me.  This is why Dockerfile, docker-compose.yaml, Kubernetes manifest (yaml) files, and helm charts are preferred over "operators" for the more advanced self-hosters.  All of this new architecture as code is moving so fast that it make it very difficult for an operator to capture the power of the technology-native solutions.
