In the debug menu I generally make the following setting changes:
- "Select newly added layout items" to false
By default this is on. When you drag an item into another, unlocking and dragging a text item into a list for example, it will automatically select the list object. Disabling prevents that behavior.
- "Show Development Menu" to true
Enables the following:

- "Show all active VIDA properties" to true
This enables a number of hidden properties for the C11.1 visualizations. Be careful with this as they're hidden for a reason! Clustered bar for example:

- "Create Extended Data Items" to false - Extended data items annoy the crap out of me. You can't modify them once they're set, so crosstabs with dozens of items made with extended data items are a pain to change.
- "Show advanced query hint options" adds this menu to queries:

Enabling the debug menu will also make this menu appear:

From that the options I use most often are:
- Convert report to V5 dataItem - this will convert all the extended data items into regular data items. A life saver. Various IBMers have claimed that extended data items may be better performant against some OLAP technologies, but I haven't seen proof of that yet.
- Inline images
- Inline Background Images
These will take image links, automatically convert them to base64, and embed them into the report. Useful if you're trying to make portable reports.
This is not an exhaustive list, and IBM generally frowns upon people talking about this and other
SECRET menus that may or may not exist, so I'll stop here. Be very careful playing with the debug and
SECRET options, since this can really screw up your reports.

Hi Andreas,
Thanks for the tips.
Could you tell me how to activate the "debug" menu?
This is the first time I've seen it!

Hi Andreas.
In the Debug menu within Authoring there is a setting to change the location of both Templates and Themes. You could give it a try.

Hi all,
to use the IBM templates (or themes) we did the standard import from samples.zip.
The destination is always the root directory.
I know that we can restrict or hide the folder but
we want to have all admin content in one special folder.
If we move the templates to a different folder they are not available in eg.
new reports or new dashboards anymore.
Is there a specific config file where this location is set?
Thanks in advance for any ideas?
BR
Andreas
