  • 1.  CBM/HBM Insights?

Would love to get your thoughts on CBM (Cloud Bus Mgt) and HBM (Hybrid Bus Mgt).  How's it working for you?  How is the threshold management working out?

@Matt Temple, you mentioned CBM in another thread and thought I'd poke you here for additional info as well.

@Julie Batty, adding you, too, since you mentioned you were running it in a separate environment - wanted to get any additional feedback you had on the product.  Pros/cons, challenges, etc.

    Thanks, Everyone!

We're not on CBM...still using CCM in our 12.5. I'm very interested in some of the CBM features though. :-)

How are you liking CCM?  Are you able to provide actionable data using it?  Do people use the reports or do they stick w/the portals or do they import data into their own sites using API to view/manage?

CCM is good for colleagues who do not actively manage nor have a key stake in the day-to-day Cloud activity/spend.

When a senior leader or executive (not actively managing Cloud) wants more frequent updates and similar insights supported through tools like Cloudyn, Cloudability, Right Scale, et al CCM falls short.

Some of 12.6's new features and the addition of CBM really starts to narrow the gap more effectively between Cloud-specific tools (including native dashboards...think AWS Console) and Apptio's products.

Gotcha/thank you!  Given that about CCM, now I'm really curious about what CBM/HBM will give us and who all's using it.

Same as Matt, we're on CCM still mainly because we're having some difficulty getting our hosting teams to allow the datalink connectors to be set up so having to pull the data manually. Once we can get all the billing/reports automatically then we probably won't be looking at CBM.

I used CCM prior to it being actually named and I love it just because we didn't have anything that could produce the mappings and reports as efficiently. Feel like CBM will give us more info to work with but again just reliant on being given access to the cloud provider MI data and the quality of the data kept there (i.e. tagging).

@Richard Coronado and I met with @Samuel Fetchero last week to quickly chat about CBM and a couple other things.

Two specific topics I raised were 1) the way in which data was obtained and loaded into CBM and 2) support for custom tags...beyond the "standard" ones Apptio looks for.

Saw a little more of CBM at the European User Group yesterday and very interested/excited about the possibilities.  We are also in CCM and having great success, mainly in AWS space as that has been our focus - Azure is polling daily but have been focusing on bigger wins for now.  We have also added Dell Boomi connector inputs and created a charging model based on some agreed service catalogue pricing, recently we have introduced our support partner costs as well using consumption as a driver to allocate the fixed price managed service for AWS and Boomi which is working well.  Its providing a loaded cloud costs where we have struggled with some of our other CT challenges...  Not quite out the box, but very effective!  :O)

Through daily analytics we have saved large sums by showing the impact of not scheduling or buying the wrong size product, but still need to do the scheduling manually :O(....  We encourage the projects to schedule switching off their services at end fo day in case they forget to but not to auto switch on, so at weekends it doesn't spin up and if there are morning huddles etc again not paying for those precious minutes.... until needed!

Using the Monthly TCO as post data cleanse (tagging is still an issue!) we have managed a really defensible 'Bill of IT esq' recharge for our cloud services and have it all end-to-end in CCM!  PM uptake has been a good success as well with many logging in every day to check the impact of yesterdays project decisions.

We have custom built a few reports for the TBMO but largely out the box for the end user community.
