First of all some information about the environment (it's from our customer):
    • AIX 5.2
    • EMC Symmetrix (attached via FC SAN)
    • HP MSA 1000 (attached via FC SAN)

Cause the old Symmetrix went End of Service Life, we want do do a migration of the data on it.
So the customer created some disk space for the AIX-server and we made the SAN-zoning.

After the "cfgmgr" command we could see the new disks "hdisk25" and "hdisk26".

    root@oradb1:/ > lsdev -Cc disk
    ...
hdisk25 Available 0A-08-02 Other FC SCSI Disk Drive
hdisk26 Available 0A-08-02 Other FC SCSI Disk Drive

We also saw the attributes from the disks:

    root@oradb1:/ > lscfg -vl hdisk25
hdisk25 U787B.001.DNW4959-P1-C2-T1-W500508B30090A1C9-L2000000000000 Other FC SCSI Disk Drive

But wen we created the volume group we get this error:
    0516-1182 /usr/sbin/mkvg Open Failure on hdisk25.
0516-862 /usr/sbin/mkvg: Unable to create volume group.

Has someone an idea what we made wrong?

I think the problem is, that MSA1000 doesn't support AIX.
On the MSA we have to configure the OS-Type, but AIX is not listed!

Therefore I think the thread can be closed.
