I have a new P720, with AIX 7.1 and VIO 2.1. We do not have HMC or SDMC.
I have successfull installed VIO from DVD and completed the install by accepting the license, mirroring the disks and configurating the networking.
For this, I used mktcpip command, using the en0 interface (first nic card, not the HMC1 or HMC2). The IP address is different from the HMC1 one.
Once configured, if I plugged a laptop on the en0 nic card, I can ping its IP, but if I try to access it via http://192.168.1.1 or https://192.168.1.1 nothing happens. If I telnet to port 80 it is opened, and so is port 22. If I ssh using putty, I have no prompt.

Is there something else to do, which I forgot?

    Thanks

Did you do a mkgencfg ?

The command did not make a difference.

    However I fixed my problem!
So far I was only using a laptop connected directly or via a switch to en0.

I plugged the p720 onto our lan, and bingo it worked!
The issue was probably to do with some sort of reverse DNS (even if only using IP address).

I cannot believe I spent hours on this!

    Cheers
