OK, here is what I want to do.
Client has a p590 with 10 VIO client LPAR's defined, a pair of VIO servers and 3 LPAR's which are NOT VIO Clients (prod LPAR's with physical devices).
There is NIM server defined of a separate physical power5 server and ALL the LPAR's use this external NIM server for MKSYSB recovery, upgrades, updates etcetera.
I have set up a Virtual Media Repository (VMR) on one of the two VIO servers, which means that the VIO clients no longer need to use the NIM server. But we it seems that we need to retain the NIM server just for the 3 LPAR's that are NOT VIO client LPAR's.
Question (and It may be stupid) - could I just create and map a virtual SCSI adapter to each of the (currently) NON VIO client LPAR's to enable me to use the VMR on the VIO server, removing the need for the external NIM server? Other than having to migrate a WPAR from the NIM server, the NIM server could then be switched off entirely saving money for the client.
Thanks for reading.
Andrew Austin.
