  • 1.  Can only do LPM on inactive LPAR.

    Posted Wed September 06, 2023 12:23 PM

    Hi,

I've try to do a LPM between a power 9 s922 and a power 10 s1022 with an active lpar  Seem that all prereq is OK, PowerVM entreprise on both server, VIOS with enterprise edition, npiv with both wwpn in zoning,... when try with lpar active, i've a generic error with partition state.

If i look at migration in system properties LPM is active for both active and inactive lpar,

but for number of supported migration it's noted

    0 for active lpar

    16 for inactive lpar

I look at an old s822 with PowerVm Entreprise which i know it work's and it is noted 8 for number of supported migration and 16 for inactive.

I try to do a LPM with inactif partition and it's work

Is there a new option to active LPM with active LPAR or a new feature ?

    Regards

    Dear Virgile

One possibility is that this may have to do with you (or someone) having entered VET activation code into HMC that somehow disables the Active Mobility capability (for whatever reason it may be - may have to do with the edition of PowerVM you bought).  Check the server properties if this is the case or not.   If so, you may need to contact IBM or its BP for a new VET activation code if you bought Enterprise edition.

The new HMC looks like this :

This URL has this to say :  https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/power8/8001-12C?topic=TI0003J/p8ecu/p8ecu_arecupowervmeds.html

It appaers Standard Edition does not deliver Active Mobility.

    Hi Satid,

    Thank you for you answer

Look what feature code are in my server, and feature code for PowerVM Entreprise Edition come with my power 10. Strange When i wrote my post yesterday, migration table  look exactly like your screenshot with a 0 on active Number of supported migration. Which tell me that it's only possible with inactive partition Now it's 16...

Actives Fonctions on this server :

I will give a new try.

    Regards

    Hi,

I give a new try without modification from my first post, and now it works. really strange... A bug with the HMC because the only thing that i'll do is to rollback with "old interface" and return to new interface HMC is at V10R2 1030... @Sati, i'll see on your screenshot that you have LPM capabilty on your server but HMC show 0 on Number of supported migration, is this table change when you go in old interface ?

    Regards, Virgile
