  • 1.  Can network card #EN2Z - PCIe 4-port 1 GbE Adapter for LAN console with IBM i is supported ?

    Posted Mon November 11, 2024 11:49 PM

    Dear all,

I am proposing the server S1014 running i 7.4 . Because the customer wants to save the cost and don't use the HMC in this case, I propose the NIC #EN2Z- PCIe 4-port 1 GbE Adapter. So please advise whether this NIC for LAN console with IBM i is supported?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

EN2Z is not listed here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/power10/9105-41B?topic=requirements-adapter.

But this documentation may not be up-to-date, better ask IBM as you may have HWMA ;)

    Hi,

Thanks for your information. I saw in the adapter list has the NIC #EN2Y (https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/power10/9105-41B?topic=requirements-adapter#hardwarereq_adapter__table_ull_tvy_h2b).

And the #EN2Y and #EN2Z is the same function (https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/power10/9028-21B?topic=ad-pcie-4-port-1-gbe-adapter-fc-en2y-fc-en2z-ccin-5775).

So does it mean #EN2Z is supported for lan console with ibm i?

I think your answer lies here:

    Hardware and Firmware

    Summary:

    IBM i I/O Support Summary

    Detail:

    IBM i I/O Support Details

The Summary says that both versions of the adapter are supported in "All" Type of Configuration (Native, VIOS, iVirt, All) with 7.4TR10 & 7.5TR4.
Since this is an IBM i page, "Native/All" should be with or without VIOS or HMC.

This announcement letter specifies which card is supported in which Power10 models.

IBM extends hardware capabilities with DDR5 memory and other enhancements for selected IBM Power10 technology-based servers - IBM Documentation
It looks like you need the low-profile EN2Y for the 2RU models and the full high EN2Z for the 4RU models.

This show which hardware models support the EN2Y & EN2Z adapter, but says nothing about Native vs VIOS support:
    Adapter information by feature code for the 9028-21B, 9043-MRX, 9080-HEX, 9105-22A, 9105-22B, 9105-41B, 9105-42A, 9786-22H, or 9786-42H system and expansion drawers - IBM Documentation

Your IBMer or IBM business partner should be able to confirm this with the configurator.
