Can MFA use CSSMTP instead of making a direct SMTP Client connecton. Reason, need TLS encryption

Currently our MFA, v2.2, sends its email by making a direct SMTP client connection to an external SMTP server. Can MFA make a TLS connection by way of the STARTTLS command or can it use CSSMTP as the SMTP client instead? Reason, our directive is to encrypt all TCP/IP connections between end points. TIA
