  • 1.  Calculated Mean and a Test of Normality

    Posted Mon November 28, 2022 12:26 PM
    Hi Rick,
Please confirm or adjust my understanding of the following:

When calculating the mean of a descriptive statistic such as age along with a normality test, the reported mean is both the mean of the sample group and our best estimate of the population mean (CIs provided).

    Thanks in advance.
    Cliff

    Hi.

Whether the sample mean is the best estimate of the population mean depends on the true underlying distribution (which could well be the normal; that's really a theoretical matter more than anything else). See this explanation for example.
