  • 1.  BYOD - Selective Wipe for Android Devices

    Posted 13 days ago

    HI Everyone,

I have used Selective Wipe in BYOD Android Device.

Below apps were wiped in MaaS360 MDM Container:

Email, Contacts, App Catalog, DOCS, Browser

Remaining appplications were present in the work profile.

Outlook and google chrome were present with the respective user account login.

    How does selective wipe works?

can anyone let me know the workflow for selective wipe and revoke selective wipe?

What is the advantage of it?

    Hi

    2 points here:

    1. Selective wipe is not Full wipe

For a Full wipe you remove all data, settings, apps etc. This would be very frustrating to users who had just had all of their personal data removed.

For Android devices as you know the Profile Owner mode does a similar thing, put a professional work profile without configuring the whole device.

But while iOS had User Enrollment, this has recently been stopped. What we wanted originally was to have a multi-platform way of ensuring that devices did not have to be fully wiped while removing corporate data.

    2. Apps will be removed if they have been set prior to distribution to Remove on Selective Wipe

This setting means that when you set the setting, distribute the app to the device and install it, it will take account of this setting.

So after this if you selectively wipe the device, the app is auto-removed.

However if you didn't set this setting prior to distribution, and selectively wipe, the app won't remove.

The setting only applies when the configuration was done prior to pushing the app to the device.

Changing it now won't make a difference for existing distributed apps on devices.

    Hope this helps.

A selective wipe only removes apps that are pushed and managed by MaaS360.

If an app was already installed on the device before it was configured as a managed app, that app will not be removed during a selective wipe.

When properly configured, a MaaS360 selective wipe will remove:

    • The APN profile
    • The MaaS360 enrollment/profile
    • The Exchange account (if the account was properly configured during the enrollment process)
    • All managed applications configured to be removed during a selective wipe

It is important to note that the Exchange account and managed applications must be configured correctly within MaaS360 for them to be removed as part of the selective wipe process.

    Thanks,
