BRMS: How do you add a bookmark to IBM i Navigator for BRMS?

  • 1.  BRMS: How do you add a bookmark to IBM i Navigator for BRMS?

    Posted 9 days ago

I have the BRMS GUI working over https.  I get there with https://domtest.dekko.com:2089

How do I add this as a bookmark within IBM i Navigator, which will actually "Open"?

I tried the following but the "Open" always stays grey.

    Hi,

I tried to edit the bookmark and it works well. You need to save it and then it can be opened through the Bookmark tab.

If you are facing problem may be try adding a New Bookmark.

In addition to the manual adding of a bookmark, IBM Navigator does now try to add BRMS as a shipped bookmark if it detects it. With that, it does try to detect if BRMS is configured for HTTP or HTTPS. However, if a user has changed bookmarks in navigator, then I believe Navigator tends to not touch anything as to not disrupt changes a user may have made (I am guessing the thought was that it is better to be safe than accidentally overwrite something).

One thing I have had some success with is resetting bookmarks by using the 'restore shipped bookmarks' button. However, if you've done any changes or added any of your own bookmarks, you would want to make sure you knew what you changed or added before you caused your changes/updates to be overwritten. I have also seen instances where using that button after I have made various changes has caused things to duplicate as well, so use at your own risk if you've made lots of changes as it may have trouble reconciling them.

Worked perfectly!  Thank you!  It left that bookmark I struggled with so I deleted it.

The restore can do things that I cannot, like leave one field blank which is mandatory entry for me.

It also added BRMS on the hover of bookmarks instead of having to go into Manage Bookmarks.

    Great.

I have to weigh in ..... I added the bookmark for the BRMS GUI and that worked. I could open the logon screen but I received a 404 not found error on the webpage. I went into Nav for i, removed the bookmarks for the BRMS GUI that I had created on all of the partitions we have. Then I ran the "restore shipped bookmarks" as Brian recommended. Problem solved.

As far as the error 404, I'm wondering if it is that field that is mandatory for us, but is not for the supplied bookmarks?

Glad that it's working for you though.

Anything else different, like port#, etc?  If you didn't setup TLS or run the command to automatically reroute nonsecure to secure perhaps that might play into it.

On some lpars the new bookmarks have the FQDN and some do not, after running the reset.  CHGTCPDMN has appropriate entries for host and domain on both lpars.  Both are at IBM i 7.5 with the same http group ptf level.  I'm trying to order a new version.

Got this figured out.  Looking at the sql behind the list of bookmarks in Navigator did not help.  It did not give the source for the host name column.

It was determined that it was not getting it from CHGTCPDMN.

The usual IBM suggestion of "take two PTFs and call me in the morning" didn't do any good.

In Navigator, when you set up a "node" to manage it will ask you for a "Node Hostname" and "Node Display Name".  If you give them both simply MYLPAR instead of MYLPAR.MYCORP.COM this is where you run into issues.  Use the FQDN for the host name.  If you want to use just the host name and not the fqdn for the "Node Display Name" this should work fine.

I checked Nav for i on all of our partitions. I have nodes defined with IP as the Host Name and Display Name defined with System Name. All works.

And that works fine with https and a certifier assigned?  I wouldn't think an IP address would play well in that scenario.

When LPAR1 switches over to LPAR1HA (as in high availability) does it retain the same IP address?

Not set up with https. If I was, it might change things. I had most of them set up with IP on both. Also haven't seen it in a role swap yet. That could force me to change the config as well. TBD ....
