on smitty, Eg. say you down loaded filesets to /software on your Aix server , then on smitty input that directory /software & in next tab select the software you need to install "bos.rte.printers_5.3.9.0.bff " in your case.

You answered it as the current directory ( . ). What directory are you trying to install it from? Did you try to create a new .toc file then run the install again?

Have you tried to install it from the CD? Or do you have a cd0?
If you do you'll need to put in the first CD of the whole OS set and let SMIT prompt you for the correct CD where this file resides.

You put in your response that you entered http://bos.rte.printers_5.3.9.0.bff for 'Software to Install' but as previously suggested you need to drop the http://. You can't install from a web address.

You also need to enter YES to 'Accept New License Agreements' anytime you install new software just to have that covered. You will not always know when it is needed so answer it YES.

• run this command to create a new .toc file:

1. inutoc .

- Verify the newly created .toc file.
- To display System Manangement tool on local GUI, run:

1. export DISPLAY=<local hostname or IP>:0.0

• I prefer smit instead of smitty because I use dterm and smit has nicer GUI, run:

1. smit

• a "System Management interface Tool" GUI will show on your local PC, select: Software installation and Maitenance --> install software and update

and from there -- pick your choice ;-)
