BI Administration -> Query Service Settings -> what does Acquired Yes/No mean

I changed the two Query Service settings below several days ago and then stopped and started the query service. Also, we stop and start the Cognos service every night to help with Java memory issues.

Initial JVM heap size for the query service (MB) (Requires QueryService restart)
JVM heap size limit for the query service (MB) (Requires QueryService restart)

Today when i look at the Query Service settings, all of them say Acquires Yes, except the two that I changed. They say Acquired No.

    What does Acquired Yes/No mean?

    Hi

It means they a acquired from the system/server group, where the dispatcher "lives".

There should not be a need to start / stop the service every night, it should clean up the memory used over time.

Hi, Acquired=no means this configuration was not acquired (inherited) from the parent configuration (the server in this case) but changed by you.

    Hi Brenda,

You'll find an explanation in the Administration and Security Guide, Chapter 7, Page 137

    Cheers,

    Hi Brenda,
Because the Query Service is a child of the Dispatcher, by default it would "inherit", or Acquire, the properties of its parent.  By default all objects will acquire parent settings, except for those that you override, as you've done.  That just indicates that you've changed the default, or inherited, settings, nothing to worry about.
